10 Interesting Stats from Premier League Matchday 19

1 – Luis Suarez won his and Liverpool’s first penalty of the season when he was tugged down by Ryan Shawcross inside the first two minutes of Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat at Stoke. Manager Brendan Rodgers had said earlier this season that Suarez was being treated unfairly by referees inside the penalty area and not getting the decisions he deserved based on his reputation.

4 – Patrice Evra scored his fourth Premier League goal of the season on Boxing Day during Manchester United’s 4-3 victory over Newcastle. Only Branislav Ivanovic has as many from defence and no defender has more than these two this season. This is the same number of goals as Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers’ top scorers.

5 – Gareth Bale became the fifth player to score a Premier League hat trick this season and also the fifth Welshman to score a hat trick in the division. He is also the third to score a hat trick from midfield, with only Robin van Persie and Luis Suarez scoring hat tricks amongst the strikers. Dean Saunders, Mark Hughes, Gary Speed and Rob Earnshaw are the other Welsh players to have netted three in a game.

9 – Stoke City have the current longest unbeaten streak in the Premier League, now 9 games since they last suffered defeat; a 1-0 loss at Norwich City on 3 November.

12 – Aston Villa have conceded 12 goals over their 2 Christmas games and have now conceded 13 goals in a row since they last scored. Paul Lambert’s side are just 3 points above the drop zone with 1 game left in 2012.

14 – Everton have conceded at least 1 goal in each of their last 14 Premier League matches. This is the longest active streak in the division without keeping a clean sheet.

44 – In beating Liverpool 3-1, Stoke City scored more than 2 goals in a single game on Boxing Day for the first time in 44 Premier League matches in since they beat Blackburn Rovers 3-1 in November 2011.

46 – With 2 fouls in their defeat against Chelsea, Grant Holt has now committed the most fouls in the Premier League this season. The Norwich City target man led the league with 89 fouls last season and is once again battling with Marouane Fellaini to top the chart this season.

72 – Jonathan Walters has started Stoke City’s last 72 Premier League games. This is the longest current run of any outfield player in the division.

500 – On Boxing Day, Phil Neville became the seventh player to make 500 appearances in the Premier League. The six who came before him were Gary Speed (9 December 2006), David James (30 January 2008), Ryan Giggs (25 October 2008), Sol Campbell (5 December 2010), Emile Heskey (3 December 2011) and Frank Lampard (23 December 2012).
